Product Description

The new Manfrotto XPRO Ball Head is the perfect union between innovative technical solutions and design.

XPRO Ball Head features a new triple locking system which guarantees camera position stability, avoiding drifting thanks to three wedges which enclose and block the sphere. Its friction control helps the user balance the weight of camera equipment and, thanks to the two leveling bubbles, fine adjustments can be made with the locking knobs open. Moreover, its new polymer rings have substituted that unpleasant, messy grease, ensuring smooth, accurate and less jerky camera movement.

XPRO Ball Head is extremely portable, lightweight and reliable thanks to its magnesium body: it weighs only 0.5 kg and can support up to 10 kg of payload.

What happened to "Italian Quality" ? This mind as well be Chinese.

What happened to "Italian Quality" ? This mind as well be Chinese.
This is my third Manfrotto ballhead. Also my last. I owned an older ballhead that lasted me about 10 years, made of solid metal and very well engineered and manufactured. After it got stolen I got the 492 which lasted 3 years then the ball wore out and it didn't hold my camera very tight. This new ballhead MHXPRO-BHQ2 is large and heavy which is nice, it gives the impression of a quality product, but the handles are uncomfortable to use for prolonged use, they have sharp edges and made of some cheap plastic, also the Main knob, the tension knob and the pan knob are too close too each other so I end up pinching my fingers between them often. In order to tighten the main knob you have to make a full turn, this was not the case with Manfrotto's older models, a quarter turn was all you needed to go from loose to securely tight. Lastly the serial number, model number and even the Manfrotto Logo are made of some kind of sticker that will fall off at some point. To sum it up, the quality is poor and the design flawed for a Manfrotto product. Still better than most of those Chinese brands however and the snapping locking plate (RC2) is still very nice to use despite the cheap plastic locking mechanism. Overall I just wish there was more quality to it and a better design of the knobs. I hope this helps you decide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get the Pro Version
Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2020
Manfrotto is a great company. This is a great ballhead. It is lightweight and versatile. Regarding this ball head, I had a piece snap off on a hike to the Wave in July 2020 on the way back, when I had to do some scrambling down a steep embankment. It wasn't a hard strike; but, just enough to break it. Bought it in September 2019, so it lasted less than a year. A ball head like this is safe doing normal photography; but, if you like to get out in red rock country and do some serious hiking to get back to some serious formations to take some photographs, I would get the Pro version that I just ordered. I'll see how long this one lasts.

I use it for bird and flower photography. The quick release plates seem to become loose very easily but it could be that the lens foot is well used and the thread not as good as it used to be.
